Strategy of the PASS Business Unit Travel is confirmed by the results of the VDR business travel analysis
PASS products meet market needs
Aschaffenburg/Frankfurt, September 2nd, 2011 - In its ninth VDR business travel analysis, the business travel association VDR has evaluated what the central processes look like today and in the future, which tools travel managers desire, and to which extent mobile apps will be responsible for growth.
The study confirms that with its range of services, PASS Consulting Group is very well positioned in the travel industry and has been meeting important requirements already for several years.
Travel management systems
Nine out of ten travel managers support the implementation of a travel management system in the company. PASS offers a set of components that is oriented individually towards the needs of the travel manager and the traveler. The travel agent is smoothly integrated into this process: the business traveler finds his booking in the travel management system although it was booked through the travel agent. PASS has already successfully implemented this solution, among others, for Corporate Travel Partners GmbH, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa City Center Giller Reisen GmbH. PASS displays the entire business travel process in terms of IT technology, from approval to billing, and thus reduces media interruption.
Door-to-door booking possibilities
According to the VDR study, a complete, gapless service chain is becoming more and more important. PASS has already developed this so-called “door-to-door functionality” in 2009.
Multi-GDS booking system
In the future, travel managers will exert more influence on the choice of their travel agent’s booking system, as to the VDR study; travel agents must be able to flexibly access any desired GDS.
The solution PASS XX/1 provides XML interfaces for all GDSs and other sources, and unifies their content in a booking interface. This facilitates the required flexibility with a consistent look & feel of the application – whether it is with an Internet Booking Engine (IBE), a Corporate Booking Tool, or an Agent Desktop.
Mobile apps
In times of smartphones and tablets, we cannot imagine today’s world without mobile apps. Three out of five people who are responsible for business travel affirm the added value of apps. In 2010, German cell phone users downloaded 900 million apps onto smartphones. There are almost 300 million active cellphones in use in the US – which means almost every US citizen owns a mobile phone.
At its 2011 Spring Mobility and Travel Management Conference, VDR found out that business travelers are using apps in order to receive consolidated information concerning their trip. In 2010, PASS established a Competence Center that deals with the development of business applications for smartphones and tablets. The development is happening both on the native platforms Apple iOS, Google Android, and RIM Blackberry, but also as web-based mobile apps. The PASS case-of-emergency-app offers travelers functions such as location recognition abroad, automatic switch of emergency numbers during trips abroad, as well as doctor, pharmacy, and hospital search.
Future Perspectives for Travel Management
The VDR concludes in its study that the world of travel management will become more and more complex, quick, technical, comprehensive, and positively effective. Travel-intense companies will profit from cost-reduction, sustainability, efficiency, and transparency due to process-supporting systems.
In recent years, PASS has invested a lot into the flexibility of its software, and has developed travel frameworks completely anew – on the base of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) with the PASS Virtual Software Factory. Thus, the company is best equipped for the increasing complexity of future needs. The VDR business travel analysis confirms this strategy.
